Crossing Borders – Strengthening Europe

An internationalization project

Course of the project

01.12.2023, Invitation to the international co-creative workshop "Polycrisis and Transformation"

On December 15, we will conclude the year with an exciting international workshop. Alumni of our international educational work, young academics and historical-political educators are invited to attend. The aim of the workshop is to develop the basic principles for a future-oriented, democratic consensus of values. With this consensus of values, we want to counter the questioning of democratic patterns of order and values that we are experiencing today in the course of the "polycrisis" of war, pandemic, climate change, social inequality, social polarization and the associated questions of transformation. The consensus of values developed interactively at the workshop will also be used as a reference framework in the Foundation's further educational work. The workshop will be held in cooperation with the Partnership for Democracy in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg. You can find all information here.

15.10.2023, English translation of homepage and virtual exhibition in progress

Preparations for the English version of our digital exhibition on Adam von Trott began at the end of 2022, as well as for an English version of our website. With both, we want to expand our international work, address additional target groups and, above all, bind our international network more closely to the foundation's work. The aim of this internationalization is also to exploit further opportunities for our fundraising in the future. The preparatory work for the English-language online exhibition and the English website has already been completed. The translations are currently in progress. However, for the technical implementation, which is complex due to the interactive nature of the exhibition and website, we still need additional funds of 10,000 euros. We ask for donations in our virtual donation basket.

21.12.2022, First international newsletter sent out

Shortly before Christmas, we sent out the first international newsletter from the Adam von Trott, Imshausen Foundation. The English-language newsletter focused on the Adam von Trott Lecture at the University of Göttingen on November 24, 2022. In his speech "From post-war Europe to post-wall Europe - and back", the British historian Timothy Garton Ash vividly traced the path of post-war Europe up to the start of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine in February 2022 and linked it to the history of Adam von Trott's work. You can read the entire newsletter here.

Project description

The aim of the "Crossing Borders - Strengthening Europe" project is to improve the content, reach, impact and visibility of our association Stiftung Adam von Trott, Imshausen e.V. on an international level.

Over the past few years, our association has built up networks and offerings that focus primarily on German society. While this is important and must be a permanent goal, it is equally important to cross our borders, especially linguistic borders, with the overarching aim of strengthening Europe in a time of upheaval and change.

This links us directly to Adam von Trott. He felt responsible for his immediate surroundings, for politics and society in Germany - but at the same time he was a visionary European. This form of internationalism plays an important role in the history of our association.

With our internationalization project, we want to help ensure that cross-border dialogue remains possible in times of multiple crises, geopolitical upheavals and increasing radicalization in Europe. Through an international dialogue format on pressing issues of our time, we want to promote civic engagement, creative courage, international understanding and a clear focus on values for the common good.

To this end, in December 2023 we organized the international, co-creative workshop "Polycrisis and Transformation: Setting the Values for a Democratic Awakening", which brought together actors from academia, education and civil society from various countries to discuss future-oriented basic values and develop a common set of values in the face of the current polycrisis.

The project was funded by the Belgian Futur 21 Foundation in 2022 and 2023.
